Eryn McDevitt is an environmentalist with an added interest in the world of business. Eryn’s awareness of the effects of consumerism and corporations on the climate crisis led to the creation of this artwork. Eryn delves into the hypocrisy of corporations jeopardizing the wellbeing of future generations while deflecting blame onto the consumers which buy their products. Corporation’s emissions, environmental degradation, and harmful production of toxins are contributing to the decline of the Earth’s biosphere and consequentially the overall health and wellbeing of humanity. Despite this undeniable truth, the responsibility to stop the climate and environmental crisis of greenhouse gas emissions, plastic waste, and other pollution is often unfairly directed at individuals like you and me instead of the corporations actually responsible.
Through Eryn’s satirical coloured pencil drawing, they amplify the corporate-consumer dynamic, highlighting the repercussions of corporate non-action on the environment and people’s health, and the broader impact on the gender and racial disparities within climate change where people of colour, poorer communities, and women are more greatly affected. Inspired by the interpretations and irony of political cartoons, Eryn’s work maintains a style of realism, while capturing the gravity of this matter through an exaggerated narrative.
